1. Akademischer Rat / Akademische Rätin (comparable to Assistant Professor)


We are looking for a senior researcher (Akademischer Rat on payment scale 100% A13 [1], comparable to Assistant Professor) for 3 years with possible extensions.

Requirements:

  •  A completed PhD and Master degree in a relevant field (Computer Science or related).
  •  Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Experience in “one of” (not necessarily more) the following areas:

  • Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence including Deep Learning
  • Question Answering and Dialogue Systems
  • Semantic Technologies / Knowledge Graphs / Knowledge Representation
  • Distributed Computing / Big Data

We expect:

  • An outstanding track record in publishing at top level conferences and journals
  • Experience in acquiring and running research and industry projects
  • Responsibility for courses at the Computer Science Institute for 3 hours per week (4 SWS)
  • Co-supervision of PhD, Master- and Bachelor thesis
  • Experience in software development and project management
  • Interest in transferring research results into practice

4. Two Marie Skłodowska-Curie Early Stage Researchers (Ph.D. Research Positions)

The Smart Data Analytics (SDA) research group is offering two Marie Skłodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher positions in the context of the CLEOPATRA ITN: “Cross-lingual Event-centric Open Analytics Research Academy” (http://cleopatra-project.eu/), in the areas of Machine Learning, Semantic Technologies and Natural Language Processing (in particular Question Answering and Fact Validation).

The CLEOPATRA ITN aims to make sense of the massive digital coverage generated by events of global importance in Europe over the past decade. CLEOPATRA offers a unique interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral research and training programme, which will explore how we can analyse and understand the major events that influence and shape our lives and our societies. It will facilitate advanced cross-lingual processing of textual and visual information related to key contemporary events at scale, and will develop innovative methods for efficient and intuitive user access to and interaction with multilingual information.

A successful candidate will have a strong computer science background (outstanding MSc degree in Computer Science or related discipline) and solid practical experience in software development. Familiarity with Semantic Technologies, Natural Language Processing, Information Extraction, Data Analytics and Machine Learning is of advantage. Good proficiency in English is required; knowledge of further European languages is helpful. International experience during your studies or afterwards as well as good social and communication skills are of advantage.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Conduct research at the SDA research group in the context of the Cleopatra ITN.
  • Provide important input to the development of an integrated cross-lingual data analytics platform.
  • Actively participate in the training program offered by the CLEOPATRA ITN.
  • Engage with other researchers at SDA and in other EU partner organisations.
  • Conduct research visits and secondments according to the individual career development plan.

Your research will focus on selected topics in the following areas:

  • Fact validation
  • Question answering
  • Dialog systems
  • Interactive access to cross-lingual information
  • Knowledge graphs and RDF

in a challenging and unique research environment.

The positions are offered full-time for three years (36 months).

To be eligible the applicant must satisfy the mobility requirements of Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, explained in full detail at [1]. According to these guidelines (page 6), at the time of recruitment, the potential candidate “must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention (1951) are not taken into account.” Furthermore, according to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie rules, Early-Stage Researchers shall, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, “be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree”.

The salary amounts to 100% German TV-L E13
